Cinemgraphs

I remember seeing my first Cinemagraph image a year ago.  I happened to come across Jamie Beck’s tumblr blog From Me To You and saw this image of a beautiful blonde-haired model in a pink gown, which is technically all I need to be intrigued. But this was different.   She was moving, but not in a way that I’ve seen an image more before.

Since that day, I have been hooked.  You have most likely seen one of Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg’s masterpieces on Gilt Taste or Flipboard (she’s the one peering out of the binoculars overlooking Manhattan).

You can quickly see that this process is much more luxurious than a normal .gif image, but how?  A cinemagraph combines multiple images with a movement loop, giving the illusion that parts of an image are moving like a video.

Not surprisingly, this process has taken off in a big way among the fashion industry and fashion elite, with the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Kelly Wearstler, Anna Wintour, J.Crew and Juicy Couture getting the Cinemagraph treatment for Fashion Week and as landing pages on their websites.

I don’t know about you, but this type of experience is definitely something I am hoping the online advertising world embraces and runs with in the near future….
